Devils Circuit Hyderabad 2027: obstacles, categories, cut-offs

Maruti Suzuki Swift Devils Circuit, the obstacle race most people simply call Devils Circuit, reaches Hyderabad on 10 January 2027. It is a 5 km course with 15 obstacles, a 07:00 start, and a category system that decides how long you have to finish. The venue has not been published yet, so treat everything below as the format, not the map.

The race facts below come from the organiser's pages on obstacles and categories. Check them again before you register, because details can change.

    The race in one paragraph

The 2026-27 season runs through several cities, and Hyderabad is on 10 January 2027. The format is 5 km with 15 obstacles. Unlike a stations race such as the Yoddha Race or HYROX, the work here is climbing, hanging, crawling, wading and swinging. The running is simply what connects it.

That changes what you train. Pure engine and heavy sleds will not carry you through a Skyfall Ladder. Grip, body control and relative strength (how well you move your own weight) are the currency. That is also why hybrid training suits it well: strength, carries and conditioning in the same week.

The 15 obstacles and what they demand

The organiser describes each obstacle briefly. Below is the description, followed by the physical quality it leans on. The second half of each line is our coaching read, not an organiser statement.

    Climbing and pulling

    • Rope Ridge: climbing with rods or a rope. Pulling strength and grip.
    • High Rise: climb a rope, ring a bell at the top, then descend. Grip, pulling and a controlled descent.
    • Height of Hell: a climb up a 39 ft net. Stamina in the arms and legs, and a calm head for heights.
    • The Summit: a challenge at the top that needs either trust in other racers or a muscle-up. A muscle-up is a real pulling skill, so start learning it early or plan to use teamwork.
    • Water Vault: ascend to the top against water pressure. Explosive pulling and leg drive.
    • Slop It: slide up over a slope to cross. Traction, hip drive and nerve.

    Hanging and swinging

    • Monkey Crawl: swing across while hanging, using only upper-body strength. Grip endurance and shoulder strength.
    • Skyfall Ladder: hang from bars and move across. Slipping into the water eliminates you. This is the grip-and-shoulder test of the day.
    • Hangover: swing across hangers. Same demand: grip that lasts after you are already tired.

    Crawling, sliding and wading

    • Jail Break: slide along a wired wall without falling before the end. Body tension and balance.
    • Back Stack: slide along a wall with your back straight and legs on the wall. Trunk and leg endurance in a held position.
    • Commando Crawl: crawl, run or walk under a lifted net without help from other racers. Hip mobility and patience.
    • Murder by Mud: crawl through mud to the exit. Heavy wet clothes and tired legs.

    Water and shock

    • Hydro Hurdle: jump into water, then repeatedly jump over walls toward the end. Hip and shoulder power while soaked.
    • Brain Freeze: dive into 20 tonnes of ice. A mental obstacle more than a physical one. Breathe out slowly and move.

Almost every item on this list starts with the hands. In our coaching view, a weak grip is more likely to stop you on this course than a weak engine. We cover the engine side in running for hybrid races and the grip side in carries and lunges.

    Categories and cut-offs

This is where Hyderabad athletes need to read carefully, because the cut-off is part of your result, not only a pass mark.

    CategoryRule
Competitive, men15 obstacles and 5 km within 50 minutes
Competitive, women13 obstacles and 5 km within 70 minutes
Masters 40+15 obstacles and 5 km within 60 minutes
Competitive Pro Wave AFresh course, limited to 100 elite participants
Competitive DoubleTwo partners together, 15 obstacles within 60 minutes, time taken when the last partner crosses (two-day cities only)
Corporate CupSquad of three from one company, 15 obstacles within 60 minutes (two-day cities only)
    Non-CompetitiveNo timing or rankings
Non-Competitive EliteFirst non-competitive wave of Day 2 (two-day cities only)

Hyderabad is a single-day event on 10 January, so the Double, Corporate Cup and Non-Competitive Elite categories apply only in the two-day cities. Confirm your options on the organiser's page when registration opens for your city.

    The Grand Finale route

Competitive racers can qualify for the Grand Finale on 14 March 2027 in Delhi NCR. The organiser's categories page names the top 25 men and top 25 women, ranked on best single-race time, but its wording on whether that is per city or across all cities is not consistent, so confirm it before you plan around qualifying. Either way, the objective is simple: clear every obstacle cleanly and keep the running steady, because the podium rules require all 15 obstacles for men (13 for women), and a missed obstacle matters more than a few seconds of pace.

    Which category should you pick

Be honest about the first race. A first-timer who enters Competitive and fails the Skyfall Ladder has a short day. A first-timer in Non-Competitive gets to see all 15 obstacles with no clock, learns where the pressure is, and comes back stronger.

A useful check: try a dead hang, a set of strict pull-ups and a steady 5 km run, and note where you struggle. If the hanging and pulling feel shaky, Non-Competitive is the wiser first entry, and there is still time to build. The race is about fourteen weeks away from the day we publish this, which is enough time to build a lot.

What to practise before race day

Three things are worth rehearsing, because the obstacles reward them every time.

Wet-hand grip. Several obstacles put you in water, mud or both, and then ask you to hold on. Chalk-free hangs, towel pull-ups and thick-handle carries teach your hands to work when they are not perfectly dry.

Running tired. The 5 km is not a rest between obstacles. Short runs straight after hangs, carries or climbs teach your legs to turn over when your forearms are burning.

Cold and fear. Brain Freeze and the water sections are about staying calm. A cold shower, slow nasal breathing and a rehearsed plan for the first breath are cheap and useful. Do this sensibly and stop if you feel unwell.

The venue is not yet published, so we will not guess at the course layout or the crowd flow. Plan for a 07:00 start, which means an early wake-up and a light breakfast you have already tested in training.

    How hybrid training fits

Devils Circuit is obstacle racing, not a stations race, but the preparation overlaps heavily. You need pulling strength, grip endurance, trunk stiffness and an aerobic base that lets you recover between obstacles. That is the hybrid week: strength days, carries and hangs, and engine work built around a steady aerobic base.

It is also a fitness investment that lasts beyond the race. Pulling strength and grip are linked with healthy ageing, and an aerobic base protects your heart. Training for one race builds a body that keeps working for years after it. If you are also running the Yoddha Race on 5 December, the two overlap well: the Yoddha is the first peak and Devils Circuit follows five weeks later. Our Yoddha training guide shows the base.
